This PT3 project seeks to prepare teachers who will be proficient in interpreting, analyzing, and incorporating data into the instructional process in order to improve student achievement through inquiry-based learning that is connected to state knowledge and performance standards, using advanced technology for assessment and instruction.

The collection and analysis of data can improve student learning in a variety of ways, including:

• improving instruction
• providing students with feedback on their performance
• measuring program success and effectiveness
• knowing which programs are getting the intended results
• guiding curriculum development and revision
• promoting accountability
• meeting state and federal requirements (Bernhardt 1998, Johnson 2002)
