October, 2006 - STUDENTS IN GRADE THREE THROUGH FIVE INTERVIEWED AT HALLSVILLE ELEMENTARY AND MILL CREEK ELEMENTARY

ADD-IT faculty interviewed 21 third and fourth grade students from Hallsville and 11 fourth and fifth grade students from Mill Creek regarding their beliefs and knowledge about the use of technology, self-assessment techniques, and perceptions about portfolios. These students will be interviewed again at the end of the school year to determine whether their perceptions have changed during their year in a classroom partnered with the ADD-IT project, with handheld and electronic portfolio technology as part of the assessment process.

September, 2006 - SCANNERS AND ZIRE HANDHELDS PROVIDED TO TEACHERS AT MILL CREEK ELEMENTARY AND HALLSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

ADD-IT provided each school with a scanner for use in digitizing documents for electronic portfolios. Eight teachers at Mill Creek Elementary School and six teachers at Hallsville Elementary School were provided with Zire 72 handhelds for use in assessment in their classrooms. ADD-IT faculty also visited with teachers and provided training and assistance in how to use this technology.

September, 2006 - SENIOR YEAR ON-SITE PROGRAM (SYOSP) STUDENTS RECEIVE PALM ZIRE 72 UNITS AND TRAINING IN FOLIOTEK

ADD-IT staff provided training on the Zire 72 and Foliotek electronic portfolio to 96 SYOSP students during their first semester internship experience.

July, 2006 - LANIT REVAMPS K-TEK FOLIOTEK

The student version of Foliotek was refined and made available to all teachers and interns using Foliotek's teacher interface. The new student version provided a "child-friendly" login and allows the student to see files after they are uploaded.

June, 2006 - ADD-IT FACULTY WORK WITH 87 MU TEACHING FELLOWS

ADD-IT provided all new MU Teaching Fellows with access to the eThemes request service, a resource for eMINTS teachers (http://emints.org) and assisted the students with online professional development used by eMINTS teachers as they learn about effective use of technology for learning and assessment.

June, 2006 - CLIE AND ZIRE 72 HANDHELDS PROVIDED TO HALLSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Twenty four Clie handhelds and five Zire 72 handhelds were provided for Hallsville Elementary School to use during summer school. One teacher used the handhelds to teach Computerized Legos. These students also used the Clies to take pictures of their projects. They beamed the pictures to the Zires which made the transfer of the pictures to the computers easier. The pictures were used in PowerPoint to present their projects. The students also used the Clies or Zires to make voice memos describing the process of their Computerized Lego project and used those and notes to put information in the PowerPoint. The student PowerPoints were then posted on the school web site to share their work.

May 16, 2006 - ADD-IT Staff Meet with Mill Creek Principal

ADD-IT staff held a conference call with the principal and mentor teacher at Mill Creek Elementary School in Independence, Missouri, to discuss teacher use of Foliotek and Zire handhelds during the 2005-2006 academic year. Plans for participation in the 2006-2007 academic year were discussed.

May 2, 2006 - ADD-IT Staff Meet with MU Elementary Juniors

Juniors in the MU Teacher Development Program learned about their opportunities to work with handhelds and Foliotek during the 2006-2007 academic year and 99% signed consent forms to participate in the project.

May 1, 2006 - ADD-IT Staff Meet with Hallsville

ADD-IT staff met with Hallsville teachers and Lanit consultant, Geoff Leigh, to review the use of Foliotek and handhelds in students' activities during the 2005-2006 academic year. Forty Clie and six Zire handhelds were provided for student use during Hallsville's summer school.

April 10, 2006 - ADD-IT Faculty Present at AERA

Jane Howland and Judy Freeman presented research findings from the University of Missouri's first PT3 grant that provided strong foundation on which ADD-IT's work is based. "First Year Teachers' Expected and Actual Technology Integration: Knowledge, Values, and Teaching Practices," was presented on April 10 at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) annual meeting.

March 20, 2006 - ADD-IT Faculty Present at the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education International Conference in Orlando, FL

Jane Howland and Judy Freeman presented "The Relative Stability of Teachers' Assessment Knowledge, Beliefs and Practices; and the Stages of Concern Regarding Uses of Handhelds and ePortfolios" at the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education International in Orlando, FL.

March 19, 2006 - ADD-IT Faculty Present at the PT3 National Meeting in Orlando, FL

Jane Howland and Judy Freeman attended the PT3 National Meeting in Orlando, FL where they presented a Dissemination Panel with David Gibson from Vermont Institute and Lisa Grable from North Carolina State University. They also presented a poster session about ADD-IT activities.

February 21 and 27, 2006 - Student Interviews Conducted at Hallsville Elementary School and Mill Creek Elementary School

ADD-IT faculty and staff interviewed students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade at Hallsville Elementary School in Hallsville, MO and Mill Creek Elementary School in Independence, MO. Interviews were conducted to examine student understanding of learning and assessment as well as their perceptions of the use of technology in learning.

February 9, 2006 - Hallsville Elementary School Teachers Receive ZIRE 72 Handhelds for Student Use

Four teachers from Hallsville Elementary School in Hallsville, MO each received five ZIRE 72 handhelds for student use in the classroom. Students will be able to use the handhelds in small groups to provide artifacts for the electronic portfolios and for their assignments throughout the year. Teachers and MU faculty reviewed the Lanit Foliotek K-5 student interface that allows students to upload their own artifacts into their electronic portfolios.

January 21, 2006 - ADD-IT Project Participated in the MU College of Education Research Day

ADD-IT staff participated in a poster session at the MU College of Education Research Day held on the MU campus. Information was disseminated to faculty, staff and students about the ADD-IT project research.
