Partner Work

Overview of Partner Work

The ADD-IT project is working with numerous partners to prepare teachers to use advanced technology, especially handheld computers or PDAs for student assessment. To achieve this goal, we are working with two groups of in-service teachers: Mill Creek Elementary School in Independence, MO and Hallsville Elementary School in Hallsville, MO. Teachers in these schools are using Foliotek, the K-5 electronic portfolio system developed for the grant by our partner, LANIT, with students in their classrooms.

2005-06: Seventy beginning teachers in the 2005-06 Teaching Fellowship
Program
were given the opportunity to use Foliotek with their K-5 students. During their "Technology Across the Curriculum" graduate course, Teaching Fellows were introduced to Foliotek. They also participated in one of the following eMINTS professional development sessions:

* Using Excel to Enhance Teaching and Learning
* Finding and Organizing Internet Resources
* Using PowerPoint to Enhance Teaching and Learning

Teaching Fellows had access to the eThemes request service, part of the eMINTS program, for the entire year.

2006-07: In addition to the eThemes request service, 87 Teaching Fellows in the 2006-07 cohort particpated in the eMINTS (enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies) Professional Development online course, "Constructivism in the Technology-Rich Classroom" in September 2006 as part of their "Technology Across the Curriculum" graduate course. The eMINTS program combines instructional technology with inquiry-based learning. The eMINTS professional development coursework consisted of:

* Module 1: Introduction to eMINTS: The Key Components
* Module 2: The eMINTS Instructional Model and Its Basis in Constructivism
* Module 3: Using Standards to Guide High-Quality Lesson Design

All College of Education seniors in Elementary Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia now spend the entire year in one of our partner schools. During the first semester, they receive Palm Zire 72 handhelds and use them to assess student learning. Students also receive training in the Foliotek electronic portfolio system and how to integrate use of the handhelds in creating artifacts for student profolios. The students will utilize Foliotek during their second semester of student teaching, and have access to the eThemes request service for the entire year.
