Teacher Development Program

The University of Missouri College of Education Teacher Development Program (TDP) is the result of intensive work that drew upon the experiences of public school educators and University faculty, considerable research, a review of current literature, and a thorough examination of programs across the nation. Today, the program is delivered in collaboration with approximately 80 partner schools in 23 school districts that are members of the Missouri Partnership for Education Renewal.

The Senior Year On-Site Program (SYOSP) provides participants with the opportunity for in-depth 1-5 student contact while completing their last full year of coursework. Students in the senior year field-based program are placed in partner schools located in districts throughout the state of Missouri. During the first semester students attend on-site classes coordinated by University faculty and delivered in collaboration with clinical faculty at each site. Subjects include Mathematics and Science Methods, Interdisciplinary Teaching, and Inquiry Into Schools, Community and Society, part II. The second semester is devoted to the Phase III Student Teaching Internship. Elementary majors participating in this program are participating with this grant to learn competencies in using technology for learning and assessment. such as using Assessment checklists on handhelds in order to assess student learning. Student are provided with Zire handhelds for the entire year in order to learn how to integrate this technology into assessment and learning. A Zire orientation is provided to familiarize students with this technology

SYOSP students also are given accounts to the Teacher Foliotek to learn how to use the electronic student portfolio developed in partnership with the grant and Lanit Corporation. SYOSP students who have an account can access a Foliotek exercise lesson and KTek Electronic Portfolio System Introduction to help them learn how to use this electronic system
