Articles of Using Technology for Performance Assessment

Examples of Using Technology for Performance Assessment

  • Case study of Strawberry Creek: This case study was presented in AERA 1999, Montreal, Canada, by Baumgartner (1999, April 22). For assessing students' performance, various modeling tools (i.e. Inspiration, Stella, Model-It) were used. It was reported that using modeling tools made students' thinking visible and changed the way of assessing students' learning.
  • WISE (The Web-based Inquiry Science Environment): WISE, which is supported by the National Science Foundation, is a free online science learning environment for grades 4 to 12. It was designed to support students' inquiry by letting them design, debate, and critique solutions on the World Wide Web! Teachers easily assess students' performance as a part of WISE projects within this WISE system.
  • Using STELLA to Learn Ecological Concepts in a Non-Major's Biology Course: This is a case study using a modeling software, STELLA, for learning concepts. It explains the assessment strategy with technology and the results in this case.
