Handhelds in Education

This is a section for using handheld computers in the classroom in general. Handheld computers can be used for class activities along with teachers' use for assessment. This section includes resources for handhelds in education and sample projects.

Examples of Using Handhelds in Education

  • The Children’s Technology Workshop(Toronto, Ontario, Canada): Handheld computers have been used to enrich students experience in the after-school workshops.
  • St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN): Handheld computers have been used to help students learn Japanese.
  • KITE Case Library: Case 4054-1, Case 5139-1, Case 9031-1 (KITE Case Library): The Knowledge Innovation for Technology in Education (KITE) is a project for creating and diffusing technology integration knowledge in education. As a product, KITE built a case library which contains over 1,000 technology integration stories based on interviews with inservice teachers. These three cases are about integrating handheld computers for teaching and learning.
  • Studio Four: It provides examples of how handhelds are being used in the classroom.
  • palmOne (K-12 Snapshots): This site provides examples of how educators and students at K-12 schools have improved their teaching and learning with the power of palmOne devices.
  • Learning @ Hand: This site provides lesson plans which integrate handheld devices into classroom. You can also submit your lesson plan.
  • Palmtops: Computing @ Every Student: This site provides pdf reports about pilot project results in schools.
  • Successlink has a handheld section with lesson plans
  • Paperless Classroom: This site shows how Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) can be used in the classroom.
  • Education in Hand: A Texas district uses handhelds to motivate students with Asperger's syndrome.
